The momentous breakthrough of 5G: everything you need to know

The advent of 5G will definitively enshrine the digital revolution that has already begun in recent years: a new standard for mobile connections, which will enable unprecedented low-latency, high-density performance.

The momentous breakthrough of 5G

Theterm 5G stands for “fifth generation”: a new world of speed and power. A 5G network is capable of traveling at many tens of megabits per second, 1 gigabit per second simultaneously for all workers on the same office floor. A breakthrough that proves instrumental in modern technologies, the Internet of Things, big data, digital payments and artificial intelligence.

It will enable very high-speed mobile connections with significantly lower latency times (those between the issuing and receiving of a command) than today. Each 5G-connected device will be able to count on speeds of “100 megabits per second in download and 50 megabits per second in upload, with a maximum latency of 4 milliseconds, compared to Lte’s 20, which could be further increased to 1 millisecond.”

Faster smartphones and more

5G will not only mean faster smartphones, because the new standard will affect a wide range of areas: starting with the internet of things in daily life, to meet the needs of businesses, individuals and institutions. 5G will enable a much larger number of devices to be connected with improved performance even in mobility involving all sectors of social, productive, cultural and institutional life, with benefits for people in terms of richer services, decreasing costs and higher degrees of freedom that have the potential to create new employment throughout the country.
