SWITCHBOARDS FOR OFF-GRID/STAND-ALONE ISLAND SYSTEMS

Off-Grid/Stand Alone island electrical systems, what is it all about?

You are an ultra-qualified electrical installer who is familiar with Off-Grid systems and you are just looking for the ideal electrical panelboard for you.

We at Secsun in the matter of switchboards for this type of plant can offer you the best of the available technology, because we make them with:

– components of primary brands
– Thermoplastic enclosures with IP65 degrees of dynamic and weather resistance
– insulation class II
– screen-printed nameplates
– Wire, terminal and terminal block numbering system

However, in the following article, you can find the information that is important to know about this type of facility.

Let’s start by explaining the terms:

– Off-Grid literally means not on the grid
– Stand Alone to Island, takes the equivalent meaning of independent or autonomous (from the grid).

These are the terms now in common use to define those types of systems made for buildings that, with respect to electricity needs, are not connected to any supplier network because they are able to produce it on their own.

Choosing renewable energy

Self-sufficient power generation is possible if you have a system that can take advantage of renewable energy sources, such as that produced by the sun or that produced by wind.

Thus, with a solar system, that is, a system composed of photovoltaic panels capable of transforming the thermal energy radiated by the sun, or with a wind system, that is, composed of equipment capable of transforming the kinetic energy of the wind, one can produce the electricity capable of meeting the needs of one’s residential or work facility.

To be fully Off-Grid, the power generation plant will necessarily need to be equipped with an energy storage system.

This is because it is necessary to conserve energy during the times of the day when production is most favorable, or when consumption is lowest, in order to make it available when the situation is reversed, that is, production is lowered or consumption is higher.

The energy management system should also include a charge controller and an inverter, and of course the system should be equipped with a suitable switchboard such as those specifically manufactured by us:

  • Single-phase 1/3/6 KWp manual switchboard
  • Three-phase manual switchboard 6/10/12 KWp
  • Single-phase 1/3/6 KWp automatic switchboard

Within these frameworks the main technical components are:

– Magneto-thermal switch (general from enel grid)
– Fuse holder sect. 1P+N or sez 3P+N (enel grid spy protection)
– Enel grid presence indicator light
– Enel / off-grid by-pass switch (for manually switched switchboards)
– No. 2 contactors (2NA+2NC) for automatic enel/off-grid switching
– Fuse holder sect. 1P+N (Contactor Coil Protection)
– Circuit breaker (general off-grid)
– Fuse holder sect. 1P+N or sez 3P+N (Off-grid spy protection)
– Off-grid grid presence indicator light
